I have been posting to this blog for over 13 years, each year reporting on accomplishments over the prior year and goals for the new year.

2024 is no different. My main photography goal for the year is listed in the January submission of the 2024 C.London 52 Week Photography Challenge. Content this year will work towards that goal in addition to my general shooting. Check out my website "About" page to learn more. The website is at www.jeffmarcowitz.photography

All content posted here in the blog will also be on the website, however with a subscription to the blog, you'll continue to receive the email notifications.

Thanks to all of you who have followed this photo blog for many years and welcome to any newcomers. My hope is that the images and stories are interesting and thought-provoking as I continue this creative journey. As always, comments, critiques and suggestions (here and the website) are welcome and appreciated as they often lead to new ideas and inspiration.

Thank You.
Jeff

Week 13 ☞ 03.26.11 - 04.01.11

Theme: Call Me Lazy...Anything Goes...Again

Traveling again this week.  I know shooting opportunities will present themselves, however I won't have time to pursue a narrow theme.  Will try to get in one $2 Portrait for a Flickr group I joined last week.

Cold & Thirsty

3/23/11 - Week 12
One abandoned water bottle and glove at the train station on a chilly morning.

Taken with the RetroCam, this shot works for the weekly theme.  Also planning to use for TrashTalkTuesday if nothing better is found.  For those who subscribe to both, you're getting a preview!

Robert

This afternoon (Friday), I looked out my office window and there he was again - standing in his regular spot.  I walked down to see him.  He was friendly, I was more comfortable.  He was hungry, I bought him two cheeseburgers.  I asked his age, he asked mine.  When I asked to take some more photos, he smiled.  Robert is 50 years old and has some family in Kentucky.  He lives in a shelter and takes the bus downtown.  He became disabled from a car accident 20 years ago and hasn't been able to work.  We talked a few minutes more, I gave him multiples of $2 and wished him a good weekend.  He smiled again and said, "Thank you and G-d bless."

3/25/11 - Week 12
Last shot not with this week's theme.  I was compelled to finish this short series.

Superman = Robert

As I was getting ready to leave the office on Thursday afternoon, I looked out my window and there was Superman standing right near where we first met.  I quickly printed off a copy of his picture and walked down to give it to him.  Just as I stopped, a fellow walked by, dropped a dollar in Superman's cup and said, "have a good evening Robert."  When Superman saw my questioning eyes, he chuckled and admitted his name was Robert.  I asked him how he came to be known as Superman and he pointed to a carving in the stone where he stood that said "Superman", logo and all.  We laughed about that together, I gave him $2, didn't take a picture and turned to walk on toward the train.  He said to me, "God bless, Picture Guy".

3/24/11 - Week 12
Another shot that isn't with the theme - but posted for continuity reasons.

Superman

Wow - this morning I took a huge step out of my comfort zone.  In the rush of morning commuters, I ran into Superman across from my office on Adams Street, cup in hand, waiting for donations.  I told him about the $2 portrait project and asked if I could take his picture.  He obliged.  He said he was from Chicago, been here all his life.  There were a million questions I wanted to ask, but didn't.  He was cool, I was uncomfortable.  I gave him $2, wished him a good day and walked on…back into my comfort zone.

This was my first venture into the $2 Portrait Project, which I learned about Tuesday night browsing on Flickr.  Check out the awesome project background here.  For me, this was difficult; but I'm sure I'll do it again.  Next time maybe with the D90 rather than the S95…something bigger to hide behind?  Next time maybe for $5 or $10…$2 just seems too little.

3/23/11 - Week 12
While this shot is a departure from my Project52 weekly theme, I'm posting it anyway because it represents a "first" in my photography journey.

Week 12 ☞ 03.19.11 - 03.25.11

Theme: RetroCam

I've been meaning to use a new camera program on my cell phone in a concentrated way and have not done so to date.  This week, photos for the P52 will all be from one of the various cameras available in this Android app.

Since I may take shots outside of the weekly theme, if you are interested in checking those out, please see my Flickr Photostream at http://www.flickr.com/photos/jeffm211/

Had Enough?

3/15/11 - Week 11
Nope - this blur & bokeh isn't from too much coffee.  It's raining here in SF and this is shot through the car windshield. Shot for BokehWednesday - HBW!

Cutting Room Floor

3/12/11 - Week 11
Haircut today; damn...it gets grayer every time.  Figured I'd use this for Trash Talk Tuesday since no one has posted hair clippings before!  HTTT!

FBP + 1 Week

3/13/11 - Week 11
This photo is of Frank's Trash Talk Tuesday banana peel shot one week later; evidence that he truly did not pick it up.  For the record, neither did I.  I had planned on using this for my TTT shot this week, but came up with something else.  So instead, I used some sliders in LR3 and Nik and am submitting for Slider Sunday. HSS!

Week 11 ☞ 03.12.11 - 03.18.11

Theme: Flickr Groups

Some weeks are better than others insofar as posting is concerned, but I like to try and participate in various themed Flickr groups, such as Slider Sundays, Macro Mondays, Trash Talk Tuesdays, etc.  This week, whatever shots find their way into a Flickr group posting will do double duty as a Project52 shot also.

Since I may take shots outside of the weekly theme, if you are interested in checking those out, please see my Flickr Photostream at http://www.flickr.com/photos/jeffm211/

24

3/6/11 - Week 10
Get to use this shot as a two-fer; my Project 52 (reflections) and MacroMonday.  One of Lin's and my favorite TV shows.

MacroMonday Theme: Favorite TV Shows

Rear View Mirror

3/5/11 - Week 10
Wasn't sure if I'd get a reflection shot in this weekend so on Saturday I took this selfie while pulling into a parking space. And no, I didn't jump the curb.

Week 10 ☞ 03.05.11 - 03.11.11

Theme:  Reflections

I'm not traveling this coming week and therefore may have more time for a targeted theme.  If it rains this week, will definitely be an easier theme, but if not, I can certainly come up with one good shot for the week.

Since I may take shots outside of the weekly theme, if you are interested in checking those out, please see my Flickr Photostream at http://www.flickr.com/photos/jeffm211/

Toy Marina

3/4/11 - Week 9
As a kid, I was enamored with model trains, planes and boats.  Flying over the marina on approach to SFO this week, this scene reminded me of the over-the-top models from my youth.
