I have been posting to this blog for over 13 years, each year reporting on accomplishments over the prior year and goals for the new year.

2024 is no different. My main photography goal for the year is listed in the January submission of the 2024 C.London 52 Week Photography Challenge. Content this year will work towards that goal in addition to my general shooting. Check out my website "About" page to learn more. The website is at www.jeffmarcowitz.photography

All content posted here in the blog will also be on the website, however with a subscription to the blog, you'll continue to receive the email notifications.

Thanks to all of you who have followed this photo blog for many years and welcome to any newcomers. My hope is that the images and stories are interesting and thought-provoking as I continue this creative journey. As always, comments, critiques and suggestions (here and the website) are welcome and appreciated as they often lead to new ideas and inspiration.

Thank You.
Jeff

Only thing missing was the glass of wine.

I've posted this in "Street Photography" groups because technically it was taken on the street...just happened to be a country lane rather than an urban boulevard.

Against Inhumanity

Against Inhumanity

Via Flickr:
For our day in Vienna, I rented a bicycle and rode all around the city center. In front of Parliament, I met Zäzilia Mayr. She had just participated in a large protest against the Austrian government's inhumanity toward refugees.

I spoke to her for quite a while; her English was okay and my German was non-existent. In 2009, she rode a bicycle from Vienna to Jerusalem (or maybe it was Istanbul) as part of a peace mission. Zäzilia is a writer and poet and blogs at "Sichtweisen". She shared a belief of hers with me: "In every chest there is a heart". Yes, a very interesting person she was. Helped make my day in Vienna a memorable one.

Arriving in Budapest on Yom Kippur, we wanted to visit the Shoe Memorial along the Danube River. This memorial commemorates the Jews who were lined up along the river, tied together and then shot, one person pulling the whole line into the river with them.

A solemn visit on a solemn day.

Czech Guy

Czech Guy

Via Flickr:
Walking around one night in Prague, I saw him approaching folks with his hand out. An unusual sight there since most panhandlers take a very subserviant position on their knees with head down and literally hat in hand.

When he approached me, I attempted to speak with him, but he spoke no English and I spoke no Czech. I showed him my camera and a 50 Kc coin and he nodded.
