I have been posting to this blog for over 13 years, each year reporting on accomplishments over the prior year and goals for the new year.

2024 is no different. My main photography goal for the year is listed in the January submission of the 2024 C.London 52 Week Photography Challenge. Content this year will work towards that goal in addition to my general shooting. Check out my website "About" page to learn more. The website is at www.jeffmarcowitz.photography

All content posted here in the blog will also be on the website, however with a subscription to the blog, you'll continue to receive the email notifications.

Thanks to all of you who have followed this photo blog for many years and welcome to any newcomers. My hope is that the images and stories are interesting and thought-provoking as I continue this creative journey. As always, comments, critiques and suggestions (here and the website) are welcome and appreciated as they often lead to new ideas and inspiration.

Thank You.
Jeff

Barbara

I have seen this frail women several times on Powell Street, leaning on her cane and holding out a cup.  No sign, no banter, just standing there.  For some unexplainable reason, I had previously just passed her by.  This time however, I could not just pass by.  I approached her and told her about the $2 Portrait project and she allowed me to take her picture.  When I asked her name, her reply was with a sweet voice much stronger than she looked.  It was strange…I was pleased by the unexpected strength.  Being a little out of $2 practice, I did not get her whole story.  But I did learn Barbara is 63 years old and has been in San Francisco for 35 years.  She is originally from Ohio and spent some years in Florida before coming to SF.  When I asked her what brought her to San Francisco, she replied, "a change in scenery."  Now I'm sure there is much more of a story here, and perhaps I'll get it the next time I meet Barbara.  Tonight however it was getting late, I was tired and my mind was  preoccupied by another of this evening's encounters (which is a posting for another day).  I gave Barbara $2 and wished her well.

  1. This one makes my heart ache, Jeff. She has a beautiful face. Who might she have been, had she a different path to follow?
