I have been posting to this blog for over 14 years, each year reporting on accomplishments over the prior year and goals for the new year.

In 2025 and beyond, this Blog will be my main photography communication vehicle. Content will be varied and in the spirit of my approach to photography as described on the "About" page of my website at www.jeffmarcowitz.photography

The Project W pages on the website will be a curated collection of work representing the “Best Of” images posted here on the Blog. With a subscription, you'll continue to receive an email (with content) whenever I post to the Project W Blog.

Thanks to all of you who have followed this photo blog for many years and welcome to any newcomers. My hope is that the images and stories are interesting and thought-provoking as I continue this creative journey. As always, comments, critiques and suggestions (here and the website) are welcome and appreciated as they often lead to new ideas and inspiration.

Thank You.

EC: F1.4

Running out of time this week, I took my camera and 85mm f1.4 to dinner with the grandkids on Saturday night. Was fortunate to catch a shot of my grandson entertaining his baby sister...with some bokeh emanating from the street in the background.

For the challenge, I'd put it in the streak-saver category.

As instructed by the assignment, I set the beach camera on P and just took photos. For some reason, the AF didn't lock onto anything but IMHO it worked perfectly for capturing this tender moment between my son and grandson flying a kite.

2023_CLondon52_April: Color

From the C.London website: "Anyone who’s been around in the past knows that color theory is one of my main focuses and passions. As such, you are all subject to my obsession, and April is all about color! If you need a starting off point on Color Theory, I have a blog post, Color Theory for Photographers: An Introduction. I will also be hosting a totally free color theory workshop this month on the challenge’s Discord. Stay tuned for the exact day and time. In the meanwhile, have a colorful month!"

Another 2Fer this week for the C.London and 52Frames challenges.

The growth of my grandson has been phenomenal to experience.  Now at almost 3-1/2 years old, this image depicts him looking at a photo of himself at 6 weeks of age.

Best Boy

2022_CLondon52w45: A Peer of Your Choice

From the C.London website: "Whether it’s someone from one of our 52 Weeks community, a member of your local photography club, or a friend who also happens to be a photographer, choose a peer to draw inspiration from. Choose one of their images and recreate it within your own voice. It doesn’t have to be an exact replica, but an homage."

Sean Tucker (not truly a peer...he's a professional) came to mind when this scene occurred.  His strong use of light & shadow with warm tones was the influence in this image.

Even though a week early for the challenge, I grabbed this photo just in case because of the strong sunbeams and the joy being expressed by my grandson watching one of his favorite programs being beamed to the TV. Since no good weather is predicted between now and Saturday, I'm going with it as my submission.

2022_CLondon52w8: Domestic

From the C.London website: Open for Interpretation

As I've reflected in this blog previously, watching our grandson is one of my greatest pleasures.  It is also one of my domestic responsibilities.  So with Presidents Day closing his child care, we were called into action on this holiday.  Unfortunately, the little guy was a bit under the weather so a trip to the pediatrician became part of the plan for the day.  After the visit, while Mimi was reporting back to our son, Pops was firing off a few photos in the waiting room.

This image is the first 2Fer of the year, fulfilling both challenges with a single photo.

52Frames - Week 6 - Depth of Field

We took our grandson to visit his 94 year old great-grandmother.  He loved looking at all the pics she had displayed on her window sill, and naming all the people he knows.  When I gave him his camera to play with, one of the things he shot was all the pics he looked at.

For this challenge, I made the pics the in-focus subject and my grandson as an out-of-focus foreground element.

Shutterbug

Now that my grandson (2.5 years old at this writing) has his own camera, I’m starting a collection of photos made of him and by him.  The first in this series was a diptych found here and was of simultaneous photos.

These and future postings will all have the keyword tag “Shutterbug”.

2022_CLondon52w2: Your Passion

From the C.London website: "Let’s see what makes you tick. Make a photo that shows what you love - you can be as concrete or abstract with this as you’d like. For example, if you’re a musician, you can take a photo of your instrument (concrete), or maybe a long exposure of someone dancing (abstract). Try and highlight what makes this your passion so that a viewer can interpret your love and respect for whatever it is."

Photography, golf and cycling are my hobbies, the passion for which varies depending on circumstances, physical condition and time of year.  Passion for my grandson remains constant as any time I can spend with him is a treasure.  The ability to engage in a hobby with my grandson is a 1+1=3.

Last week, when he grabbed my expensive GRIIIx and wanted to just push buttons to take pictures, I knew it was time to get him a camera.  I had planned to do so for his 3rd birthday in July but decided to accelerate the purchase and preserve the safety of my gear.  A $30 digital camera off of Amazon was perfect and this week introduced him to it.  115 photos in less than an hour.  He doesn’t quite grasp the concept of holding the camera without fingers on the lens, but he’ll get there.  These first images are precious and priceless and will have a permanent place on my hard drive.

The diptych is of us simultaneously taking a picture of each other.  Ready, set, click…
