I have been posting to this blog for over 13 years, each year reporting on accomplishments over the prior year and goals for the new year.

2024 is no different. My main photography goal for the year is listed in the January submission of the 2024 C.London 52 Week Photography Challenge. Content this year will work towards that goal in addition to my general shooting. Check out my website "About" page to learn more. The website is at www.jeffmarcowitz.photography

All content posted here in the blog will also be on the website, however with a subscription to the blog, you'll continue to receive the email notifications.

Thanks to all of you who have followed this photo blog for many years and welcome to any newcomers. My hope is that the images and stories are interesting and thought-provoking as I continue this creative journey. As always, comments, critiques and suggestions (here and the website) are welcome and appreciated as they often lead to new ideas and inspiration.

Thank You.
Jeff

2022_CLondon52w30: Simulated

From the C.London website: Open For Interpretation

From an image shot two days earlier at the Santa Monica Pier in California, I conceived the idea of a crop & processing that would simulate a Star Trek scene.

At The Stroke of Midnight...

52Frames - Week 29 - Common Object

2022_CLondon52w29:  ARTIST SPOTLIGHT:  Alfred Hitchcock

From the C.London website:  "Probably the most famous silhouette is that of Alfred Hitchcock. A master of storytelling, he uses light and shadows to create tension and further the narrative. If you haven’t seen any Hitchcock films, you’re in for a lot of fun this week. While watching your choice film, notice the lighting and how it’s adding to the overall experience. This is your inspiration for this week."

At The Stroke of Midnight...
Hitchcock often used ticking clocks in his films.  In this image, I applied directional lighting and a strong shadow reminiscent of the Hitchcock silhouette to create tension as the time approaches midnight.

This image is the second 2Fer of the year, fulfilling both challenges with a single photo.

A Lesson

20220716_Independence Grove-_A7C39752022_CLondon52w28: Unconventional Light

From the C.London website: "Some of the most interesting light comes from unconventional places - a bon fire, a TV set, headlights of a car, etc etc. For this week the main light source should be from something other than the sun or light bulbs. Be as creative!"

One of the great things about these weekly prompts is the impetus to try something new. This week, thought I would try infrared light. Unfortunately, I did not order an IR filter in time, so decided to experiment with Lightroom filters & profiles. This image emulates Kodak Aerochrome.

Good news is there was a table in the corner, a bit away from the crowd and no wait. Bad news is it overlooked the kitchen. Turned out not to be so bad afterall as it made for a good photo opportunity.

Captured my buddy's best drive of the day on the finishing hole. He was crushing them all day.

Admittedly, not a great negative space shot, but the best one I was able to make this week for the challenge.

Jammin'

Jammin'
2022_CLondon52w27: One Light

From the C.London website: "Time to play with artificial light! Your challenge this week is to use one artificial light, and one only, to light your image. You don’t have to have any fancy set-up, a table lamp or the flashlight on your phone will do just fine. Subject is up to you, just no cheating with multiple light sources!"

I took the prompt literally this week and used an iPhone flashlight to illuminate a bronze sculpture that sits on my dresser.

Both the phone and camera were handheld. Have to say I'm very happy with the Sony image stabilization and high ISO performance.
