CLondon52w50: PHOTOGRAPHER HIGHLIGHT: Dealer's Choice

From the C.London website: "Instead of me choosing a photographer for you to work off of, I’d like you to explore the work of another photographer. I have been following Detroit photographer Brian Day (https://www.brianday.org) for about 10 years. I'm not sure how to describe his work, but words like ethereal, evocative and dramatic come to mind. His self-portraits are particularly emotive.

One of my favorite series of Brian's is "Time Traveler".  I don't have the clothing & props nor the photographic acumen to replicate a photo from Brian's series.  Nonetheless, this image is an attempt to pay homage to the work of someone whom I admire.

CLondon52w43: Stop Movement

From the C.London website: "Stop a bird, plane, or even Superman in their tracks with just this one easy step!  Using a fast shutter speed will freeze motion.  No need to worry about those shaky hands (of which I suffer), nor do you need a fancy tripod/stable surface.  Other steps may be necessary, i.e. readjusting other settings.

Find a moving subject and stop its motion with a fast shutter speed.  Can’t control your shutter speed? No problem! Take this opportunity to think creatively. How else can you freeze motion?"

This fountain in downtown Long Grove, IL offered an excellent opportunity for some freeze action.

From the C.London website: "Again, based on the trick I often share with my students struggling with composition.  When looking at a scene, if you’re unsure of how to compose for that image, unfocus your eyes - instead of seeing a yard with a fence, notice the patterns of the scene.  That isn’t a hedge, it’s a repeating pattern of small circles. That isn’t a fence, but repeating lines.

For this week, try this technique out, and find some pattern in a scene.  Then compose the image to highlight that pattern."

As noted in a couple of previous posts, I intended to use my walk around downtown Chicago to make photos for some of the upcoming weekly challenges.  This week is the last of those challenges.

There were a lot of opportunities to show patterns on buildings, however this hip shot became my selection because I almost always prefer people to add interest and the building patterns were a nice backdrop.  Straightened and processed in LR.

Going Nuts

C.London52w5 - Mundane

Being so wide open, this was a difficult challenge. My take was to demonstrate mundane in an interesting photo. Tedious is a synonym of mundane and that is the path I embarked upon. Trying to spell words with small objects turned out to be a bust.

So rather than going nuts with that tedious task, I just emptied the jar into the cap and photographed the outcome.
