I have been posting to this blog for over 13 years, each year reporting on accomplishments over the prior year and goals for the new year.

2024 is no different. My main photography goal for the year is listed in the January submission of the 2024 C.London 52 Week Photography Challenge. Content this year will work towards that goal in addition to my general shooting. Check out my website "About" page to learn more. The website is at www.jeffmarcowitz.photography

All content posted here in the blog will also be on the website, however with a subscription to the blog, you'll continue to receive the email notifications.

Thanks to all of you who have followed this photo blog for many years and welcome to any newcomers. My hope is that the images and stories are interesting and thought-provoking as I continue this creative journey. As always, comments, critiques and suggestions (here and the website) are welcome and appreciated as they often lead to new ideas and inspiration.

Thank You.
Jeff

The intent here was to create an illusion...which side is real and which is the reflection?

2023_CLondon52_August: Mise-en-Scene

From the C.London website: "This month, we'll be diving deep into the captivating world of mise-en-scène. In simpler terms, it's all about arranging and capturing everything visible within a frame, from sets and props to lighting and subjects, to convey meaning and create a specific atmosphere. We'll explore four main elements: setting, decor, lighting, and depth of space, which will all play a crucial role in crafting a four (or bonus five!) photo story. The challenge is to ensure these images work cohesively, even if they're taken on different days or places. That’s right! This month, I want all the photos to be able to be presented together as one cohesive story. That doesn’t mean they need to be taken at the same time, or even the same place. There should just be at least one element of cohesion threading them together."

1.  Setting
Port Clinton Art Festival approximately 15 minutes before official opening.  Wanted to capture the setting without throngs of people.

2.  Decor
As I perused the 200+ artist booths, this one struck me for its simplicity.

3.  Lighting
The backlighting and shadows cast in the harsh midday sun were an excellent backdrop for the eclectic jewelry being shown at this artist's booth.

4.  Depth of Space
The displays in this booth were surrounded by a translucent enclosure.  The harsh midday sun enabled me to capture the enclosure in the foreground and two layers of sculpture displays in the middleground & background.  I manually focused on the back layer to demonstrate the depth of the artist's pieces.

EC: Optical Illusion

O'Hare Airport

With its mirrored ceiling and neon lights (and an early morning flight), the walkway between Concourses B & C at O'Hare's Terminal 1 made for a perfect upside-down photo opportunity.

Up & Out
52Frames - Week 33 - Black and White Minimalism

Lobby Renovation - Chicago Mercantile Exchange

Perhaps not the most minimal of the several images I shot for this challenge but definitely the most abstract. Used this because it is also consistent with an intent of finding more abstract compositions IRL.

First ever astrophotography attempt.  And at an official "Dark Sky" location no less.

Blind Shot
Blind Shot
Intent was to capture the Milky Way, however there was no visibility through the viewfinder or LCD. The Milky Way wasn't visible to the naked eye and the Photopills App was the only guidance available.  Notwithstanding, I managed to catch a glimpse.
