I have been posting to this blog for over 13 years, each year reporting on accomplishments over the prior year and goals for the new year.

2024 is no different. My main photography goal for the year is listed in the January submission of the 2024 C.London 52 Week Photography Challenge. Content this year will work towards that goal in addition to my general shooting. Check out my website "About" page to learn more. The website is at www.jeffmarcowitz.photography

All content posted here in the blog will also be on the website, however with a subscription to the blog, you'll continue to receive the email notifications.

Thanks to all of you who have followed this photo blog for many years and welcome to any newcomers. My hope is that the images and stories are interesting and thought-provoking as I continue this creative journey. As always, comments, critiques and suggestions (here and the website) are welcome and appreciated as they often lead to new ideas and inspiration.

Thank You.
Jeff

52Frames - Week 35 - Edited By Someone Else

Old Orchard
Skokie, IL

I captured and selected this photo for editing because I liked the horizontal motion of the reflection against the vertical mullions.  In keeping with the challenge, I never touched the Develop module.

My editor did an outstanding job of emphasizing the vision. Many thanks to Phil Olson (@Phil_O on Vero)!

Wasn't quite sure what I was going to photograph this week. Then I came across this peaceful scene on the 13th tee. Done!

An Important Reminder

An Important Reminder
2022_CLondon52w34: Narrative

From the C.London website: Open For Interpretation

I intended to photograph something political as that seems to dominate the narrative these days in the US.  However, when walking between the 16th and 17th holes at today's golf game, I saw this sign which resonated with me.  This is the narrative we must strive for!

Amongst The Ruins

Amongst the Ruins
2022_CLondon52w33: ARTIST SPOTLIGHT: Edgar Allan Poe

From the C.London website: "I chose Poe for this week for a few reasons: he has a very strong voice and aesthetic, and he is digestible. If you haven’t read any Poe, you can knock out a few of his poems in an hour. While you read his work, pay attention to the visuals coming to your mind and use those as a launching off point for this week’s photo."

Image inspired by Poe's poem, A Dream Within A Dream
"...I stand amid the roar
Of a surf-tormented shore,..."

2022_CLondon52w32: A Notable Character from a Book

From the C.London website: "You can take this as literally or figuratively as you like. Think of a book character who stands out to you and use them as inspiration. You can dress up like them and flex those self portrait muscles, or depict their aura, if you will."

A picture is worth a thousand words.

Fuchsia

Fuchsia
52Frames - Week 31 - Choose A Color

From colorpsychology.org, "When it comes to psychology, the color fuchsia inspires confidence, assurance, and maturity.  Some say that if fuchsia is your favorite color then you want to be different from the rest and live your life from your own viewpoint rather than do what others think you should."

Not my favorite color, but I like it and its meaning.

A Great Read

A GREAT Read
2022_CLondon52w31: What Are You Reading?

From the C.London website: "It could be a novel, poem, short story, or even just a blog post. For this week I want you to pull inspiration from something you’ve recently read. Try and show the viewer something about the writing that spoke to you."

From Sean Tucker's book, THE MEANING IN THE MAKING, in his closing benediction on page 318, Sean writes:  "May you 'protect your highlights' and remember to celebrate your growth as an artist and accept yourself as fundamentally good.  May your work ultimately point us toward the light."

Workmanship
52Frames - Week 30 - Single Focal Point (Alternate)

As seen in the trees off my balcony. Made me wonder if this guy was cutting corners or constructed this funky pattern on purpose.

I captured this about 4 hours before the deadline and was too lazy to scramble and get it submitted as my primary submission.
