I have been posting to this blog for over 14 years, each year reporting on accomplishments over the prior year and goals for the new year.

In 2025 and beyond, this Blog will be my main photography communication vehicle. Content will be varied and in the spirit of my approach to photography as described on the "About" page of my website at www.jeffmarcowitz.photography

The Project W pages on the website will be a curated collection of work representing the “Best Of” images posted here on the Blog. With a subscription, you'll continue to receive an email (with content) whenever I post to the Project W Blog.

Thanks to all of you who have followed this photo blog for many years and welcome to any newcomers. My hope is that the images and stories are interesting and thought-provoking as I continue this creative journey. As always, comments, critiques and suggestions (here and the website) are welcome and appreciated as they often lead to new ideas and inspiration.

Thank You.
Jeff

52 Frames - Week 14 - What Is It?

Not too inspired this week but chose not to shoot a standard macro...although this photo was taken with a close focus adapter.

Today's Color Is Green

Chicago, IL

Walking along Michigan Avenue following the No Kings rally, I spotted a bright green color moving behind a storefront full of reflections.  As I got closer, I saw this stunning woman watching the crowd.  I got off a couple of film shots and then approached the glass. When she saw me, I pointed to my camera and her coat.  She caught the drift, put down her phone & drink and posed in the storefront.  I took a couple of digital photos not knowing how the  film photos would turn out.

Shame

Shame
Chicago, IL

Sitting in Federal Plaza, even our infamous Flamingo is holding her head in shame. I've seen this sculpture hundreds of times, but never before in this context. Could Calder actually forsee this future?

Rhythm Is Life - Redux

I heard the melodic sounds and wondered if it was the same steel drum guy that I had heard last year and featured in a blog post.  Sure enough, it was!  Cole was, once again, filling the air with his beautiful music.  He remembered our encounter and allowed me to shoot some additional photos.  While doing so, I noticed that his drum looked different.  Cole confirmed that it was the same drum, however it had just been cleaned and not all notes had been re-written on the surface.

Check out the link to last year's post to learn more about these amazing drums along with links to Cole's band.  https://jeffm211-p52.blogspot.com/2025/03/rhythm-is-life.html

Cooks In The Kitchen

52 Frames - Week 10 - Chaos
EC:  Composite

Vacationing in a very "chill" location this week making it difficult to find chaos.  I felt forced to create my own sense of chaos via photographic technique.  Then we went to Culinary Dropout in Scottsdale Quarter where I saw actual organized chaos (and had a great dinner).

Image is a composite of 3 photos.  How many people can you pick out?

Comment Catch-up

Comment Catch-up
52 Frames - Week 8 - Shallow Depth Of Field
EC: f/1.4

At times, I go to my favorite coffee shop, Hansa, in Libertyville, IL, and comment on photos submitted by my 52Frames followers. In doing so this week, my intent was to also make a photo for the current challenge.
I decided this photo best represents my intent, circumstances and the prompt.  Featured on my laptop is Heidi Mulrain's excellent (as usual) submission from last week.

Mountain Mike

Mountain Mike
Mountain Mike Custom Leather
Idyllwild, CA

If you're ever in need of a customized leather item, this is the place.  I wandered into this shop to inquire about a custom leather camera strap for my film cameras.  Mike presented a couple of options but unfortunately, did not have anything ready-made.  Next year, with some advance planning, I may have some new straps.

Check him out at: mountainmikecustomleather.com

Unlimited Flavor Band

Idyllwild, CA

I encountered this Blues/R&B/Jazz band in the small mountain town of Idyllwild, CA.  Set-up in the corner of an Italian restaurant patio, they put out some wonderful tunes.  These photos are from digital capture; the film photos will be processed once I return home.
