I have been posting to this blog for over 13 years, each year reporting on accomplishments over the prior year and goals for the new year.

2024 is no different. My main photography goal for the year is listed in the January submission of the 2024 C.London 52 Week Photography Challenge. Content this year will work towards that goal in addition to my general shooting. Check out my website "About" page to learn more. The website is at www.jeffmarcowitz.photography

All content posted here in the blog will also be on the website, however with a subscription to the blog, you'll continue to receive the email notifications.

Thanks to all of you who have followed this photo blog for many years and welcome to any newcomers. My hope is that the images and stories are interesting and thought-provoking as I continue this creative journey. As always, comments, critiques and suggestions (here and the website) are welcome and appreciated as they often lead to new ideas and inspiration.

Thank You.
Jeff

Stripes & Plaids

Stripes & Plaid
52Frames - Week 9 - Extreme Contrast (Alternate)

Today, there was a short window of bright sunlight so I grabbed my camera and went for a short walk. Observed not only the contrast in light and color but also in patterns.

3.6 Million Miles

3.6 Million Miles
52Frames - Week 7 - Intentional Color

This week I boarded my last business flight to San Francisco prior to retiring from the company I started with two partners in 1993.  3.6 million miles with this logo  over the last 39 years; hopefully more to come.

Rules of Thirds and Odds

Rules of Thirds and Odds
Riverside Plaza
Chicago, IL

I shot this in anticipation of using it for the 52Frames Rules of Thirds challenge.  I took several photos waiting for the two people at the lower left intersection point to separate and didn't really notice the guy at the lower right intersection point until reviewing afterwards.  And the shape of his back mirroring the shape of the tree branch was a surprise bonus.

From a technical standpoint, the frame is wider than I wanted but could not move forward since there was a raised planter in front of me.  This prompted me to return the 20mm (30mm equiv) lens and get a 24mm (36mm equiv) instead; awaiting delivery.

Hologram

Hologram
52Frames - Week 6 - Rule of Thirds (Extra Credit:  Street Photography)

While riding the Metra train home, I noticed this reflection in the window next to me.  With just the right lighting conditions, I could place the subject right at a RoT intersection point and have it emerge from the background.  After several attempts with both my iphone and new Sony A6600, I was able to capture a strong reflection along with the "street photography" context as background.  Post was mainly straightening and b/w conversion.
