I have been posting to this blog for over 14 years, each year reporting on accomplishments over the prior year and goals for the new year.

In 2025 and beyond, this Blog will be my main photography communication vehicle. Content will be varied and in the spirit of my approach to photography as described on the "About" page of my website at www.jeffmarcowitz.photography

The Project W pages on the website will be a curated collection of work representing the “Best Of” images posted here on the Blog. With a subscription, you'll continue to receive an email (with content) whenever I post to the Project W Blog.

Thanks to all of you who have followed this photo blog for many years and welcome to any newcomers. My hope is that the images and stories are interesting and thought-provoking as I continue this creative journey. As always, comments, critiques and suggestions (here and the website) are welcome and appreciated as they often lead to new ideas and inspiration.

Thank You.

Approach

Approach
52 Frames - Week 43 - Centered Composition

Out shooting motion blur for another photo challenge, I thought a head-on shot might work for this week's 52Frames.  With a small tripod, self-timer and an ND filter, I was able to capture this self-portrait scene.  I used a different shot for the other challenge, but this outing was a "2-Fer".

Ghost Walk
52 Assignments Exposure 35 - Blurred Vision

Trying to capture motion blur in the leaves wasn't working, so I changed gears and combined a small tripod, self-timer and ND filter to get a long exposure, thereby facilitating this self-portrait.

Reflection shot from a bridge over the Des Plaines River. The spots in the photo are not from my sensor; rather debris floating on the water surface, as is the leaf.

52Frames - Week 42 - Fashion

A streaksaver week for sure. Out on a bike ride, thought I'd stop to show what autumn cycling fashion looks like.

Kinked
DPR Trail
Lincolnshire, IL

I've walked or cycled by this tree at least 100 times, but today, with camera in hand, noticed the weird kink in the growth of this tree trunk. Wonder what caused this?

52Frames - Week 24 - Shoot From Above
EC: Use A Drone

Des Plaines River Trail
Vernon Hills, IL

All this week, I intended to make a photo using my drone.  An early week Covid scare (turned out as false positive) and high winds pushed me to the last day of submission to being able to fly.  Not wanting to take a chance of losing the drone (and the SD card with my submission), I did a very conservative flight at a trail bridge I ride over often.

I guess one could consider this a streak-saver 😜.

Spring Into Spring

Spring Into Spring
CLondon52w18: Color Story

From the C.London website: Open For Interpretation

Walking along the Des Plaines River Trail, I observed the seemingly sudden changes ushering in spring. With a stand of repetitive vertical trees and the river for reflections, I took inspiration from the images of @fotoslasirena and tried some intentional camera movement. Although subtle, I like how the ICM carries reflections into the image foreground.

Half Way at Half Day - Redux
DPR Trail - North / Half Day Preserve

This is a reshoot of a previously posted image to a challenge suggested by my photography mentor.

This image is a far better representation of my original intent and helped by better weather, more appropriate camera and improvements in processing workflow.

Obey or Disobey?
DPR Trail - North

I so wanted to disobey this sign.  However, snowshoeing alone, I decided that wouldn't be the prudent course.  Last time I didn't follow my gut, I came home with a torn achilles.  No repeats.
