I have been posting to this blog for over 13 years, each year reporting on accomplishments over the prior year and goals for the new year.

2024 is no different. My main photography goal for the year is listed in the January submission of the 2024 C.London 52 Week Photography Challenge. Content this year will work towards that goal in addition to my general shooting. Check out my website "About" page to learn more. The website is at www.jeffmarcowitz.photography

All content posted here in the blog will also be on the website, however with a subscription to the blog, you'll continue to receive the email notifications.

Thanks to all of you who have followed this photo blog for many years and welcome to any newcomers. My hope is that the images and stories are interesting and thought-provoking as I continue this creative journey. As always, comments, critiques and suggestions (here and the website) are welcome and appreciated as they often lead to new ideas and inspiration.

Thank You.

Fito

Fito
Jamming out amongst the diners at Taboo, a new restaurant in Cancun, it was unclear to me why Fito Raygoza wasn't more well known.  The guy was amazing.

John

52Frames - Week 4 - Fill the Frame

I admired this guy's great beard as we were walking along the beach in Cancun and asked if I could take a couple of photos.  John is from Liverpool and claims not to have shaved since 1971.

Bruno

Bruno
While having dinner at one of our favorite restaurants in Cancun, Porfirios, we were watching the big screen and didn't recognize the name of the song being performed on the video.

Out came my iphone with Shazam.  Sure enough it came up with the same Bruno Mars video.

52Frames - Week 4 - Fill the Frame [Alternate]

Lounging by the pool in Cancun, the sun sparkling on the tiles was striking so thought I'd fill the frame with something that says "vacation".

Hope

52Frames - Week 3 - Wabi-Sabi
52Frames - Week 3 - Wabi-Sabi

Nicky Imber was a Holocaust survivor and created a series of sculptures entitled "From Holocaust to Resurrection" which are displayed in the Holocaust Memorial Park, located in Karmiel, Israel.  He further created a limited-edition numbered set of one particular sculpture. This shot is of the one we purchased in Tzfat, Israel in 2014.

We live in an imperfect world.  This sculpture of the collection, abtly named “Hope”,  is of a woman holding her child in the air and represents our wishes for the future.

Wabi-Sabi?  You be the judge.  I’m not 100% sure this perfectly fits the theme for Week 3, but as Yosef reminds us, 52Frames isn’t about perfection.

52Frames - Week 2
52Frames - Week 2 - Leading Lines

I've been through this terminal at O'Hare a thousand times and never thought about it in the context of leading lines until this week.  And with my penchant for street photography, was compelled to include a person in the frame.

Launch of a New Challenge

52Frames - Week 1
52 Frames - Week 1 - Self-Portrait

Since my photography has been sporadic the last few years, I was looking for some structure to jump start shooting regularly in 2020.  I found what looks to be a great challenge site, 52Frames.  Posting one shot a week, each with a different theme/subject.

Since street photography is my genre of choice, taking a self-portrait in the street environment made the most sense to me.  This shot was taken at the stairs leading to the “L” platform in downtown Chicago.

On cameras, I haven’t used my DSLR for about 5 years or my mirrorless M4/3 for about 2 years.  The iPhone camera has gotten so good, I rely entirely on that.  My intent is to shoot all 52 weeks with the 11 Pro (or its successor).

Thanks for viewing and taking this journey with me.
