I have been posting to this blog for over 14 years, each year reporting on accomplishments over the prior year and goals for the new year.

In 2025 and beyond, this Blog will be my main photography communication vehicle. Content will be varied and in the spirit of my approach to photography as described on the "About" page of my website at www.jeffmarcowitz.photography

The Project W pages on the website will be a curated collection of work representing the “Best Of” images posted here on the Blog. With a subscription, you'll continue to receive an email (with content) whenever I post to the Project W Blog.

Thanks to all of you who have followed this photo blog for many years and welcome to any newcomers. My hope is that the images and stories are interesting and thought-provoking as I continue this creative journey. As always, comments, critiques and suggestions (here and the website) are welcome and appreciated as they often lead to new ideas and inspiration.

Thank You.

Looking Up

Looking Up
52Frames - Week 28 - In The Center
EC: 16mm Or Wider

When I put the 15mm lens on, I'm always looking up for interesting and extreme angles.  While on the hunt for this week's photo with a fellow Framer, I liked the position of these vertical elements and was fortunate that the sun was low enough in the sky to hit the center of the frame.  Cranked the aperture to f22 to produce the sun star.

52Frames - Week 48 - Architecture

This photo is a good example of some really bad architecture (IMHO) that is popping up all over the place.  These apartment blocks are reproducing like rabbits and very few have good aesthetic quality.  This one replaced an even worse strip shopping center...so I guess that's progress.

Wild Ride
WTF is going on in our country?  The US vote today in the UN is just more evidence of the rough ride ahead under this treasonous administration.  Hoping there is a recognizable platform when this roller coaster ride is over.

52Frames - Week 52 - Redo

Went out to shoot B&W for another photo project and decided to redo 52F Week 5-Black & White, thereby accomplishing two assignments in one outing.  I could have done a 2Fer using the same shot for two assignments but didn't stretch it that far!

Rather than a literal redo of the original Week 5 image, this photograph takes a completely different approach to subject matter in executing B&W technique.

2023_CLondon52_September: Exploring Genres

From the C.London website: "This month, let's dive into exploring different photography genres. From landscapes to wildlife, documentary to sports, we're about to broaden our skills and capture amazing stories. Who knows, maybe you’ll find a new passion. Or whatever the opposite of passion is."

1.  Landscape
Nature provides all sorts of visual illusions.  This rock face is no exception.

I photographed this scene on 8/31/23, the day the September prompts were released to Patreon members.  Turns out it foreshadowed an article  published on September 3rd in the Chicago Tribune that discussed the replacement of corporate campuses with logistics and data centers.

Shoot With Intent

Shoot With Intent
An assignment from Chelsea London, from whom I am receiving one on one mentoring, was to emulate a photo from architectural photographer, Ezra Stoller.  In doing so, I would shoot and process with an end result in mind, ie. with intent.

I chose one of Ezra Stoller's less dramatic images because during Covid, I'm not venturing into the city where I could find more dramatic architectural compositions.  Saving that for later this year when I'll repeat this exercise. Here's a link to the image I chose to emulate:  https://www.artsy.net/artwork/ezra-stoller-shaw-house-carson-lundin-and-shaw-long-island-ny

Know the story and shoot the closing scene or shoot a cool image and write the story around it?  You be the judge.

This photographer sets out to do the former but is sometimes guilty of the latter!
