I have been posting to this blog for over 13 years, each year reporting on accomplishments over the prior year and goals for the new year.

2024 is no different. My main photography goal for the year is listed in the January submission of the 2024 C.London 52 Week Photography Challenge. Content this year will work towards that goal in addition to my general shooting. Check out my website "About" page to learn more. The website is at www.jeffmarcowitz.photography

All content posted here in the blog will also be on the website, however with a subscription to the blog, you'll continue to receive the email notifications.

Thanks to all of you who have followed this photo blog for many years and welcome to any newcomers. My hope is that the images and stories are interesting and thought-provoking as I continue this creative journey. As always, comments, critiques and suggestions (here and the website) are welcome and appreciated as they often lead to new ideas and inspiration.

Thank You.
Jeff

Victims

Victims
One can only hope that the "bricks" in these walls never get filled.  This is the Gunshot Victim Memorial at the Chicago Cultural Center.  Each brick housing artifacts provided by loved ones represents a victim of gunshot violence in Chicago.  Very sad.

Today at Apple

Today at Apple
Attended two photo sessions on Sunday at the Michigan Avenue Apple Store. The first session was entitled "Disrupting the Portrait."  The second session was about shooting architecture and was celebrating the Chicago Architecture Biennial.  This candid shot was taken at the Chicago Cultural Center and combined lessons learned from both sessions.

Today at Apple

Today at Apple
Attended a photo session on Sunday at the Michigan Avenue Apple Store entitled "Disrupting the Portrait."  Was the second time I took this session; this time at a different Apple Store.  Each instructor puts their own spin on the session and generates new inspiration.  This shot was taken against an LED backdrop through a half-filled plastic water bottle.

Attended a photo session today at the Michigan Avenue Apple Store entitled "Disrupting the Portrait."  Was the second time I took this session; this time at a different Apple Store.  Each instructor puts their own spin on the session and generates new inspiration.  Will probably post a couple more shots that used different techniques.

Today at Apple
I took a great photography class today at an Apple Store called Disrupting the Portrait.  Didn't get a ton of good shots, but the subject matter was very interesting and makes me think about portraiture composition going forward.

Janel
Of the 7 images I posted on Instagram of this Apple Store portrait class, favorites were across the board but this one seemed to garner the most interest.

Janel
Took a portrait class today at the Apple Store.  Jon & Janel were excellent.  The class was inspirational and got me thinking a lot more about composition, since I've been pretty rusty of late.  I posted a few other shots on Instagram (@jeffm211).

Little Holland Wolf

Little Holland Wolf
Heard this guy playing on Michigan Avenue a mile from the Chicago Bluesfest.   He was good.  Wondered why he wasn't playing at the festival.  When asked, he said his leg is all messed up but in his day he played with Buddy Guy and Johnny Lee Hooker.  Couldn't find any info on him, so probably fed me a line of BS.  Nonetheless, he was a solid musician and it was worth the $2 I put into his bucket.
