52 Frames - Week 7 - Unexplored

There are several public beaches along Lake Michigan in Chicago's northern suburbs. Lloyds Beach is one I have not previously explored.

With temperatures moderating a bit, ice is beginning to break apart from the frozen lake edges.

Another Kind Of Gas

Photowalk in the cold capturing images along and around the Fox River.

When photographers think of gas, it's an acronym for Gear Acquisition Syndrome, not the fuel. Hence, the title.

Not On Thin Ice

Out on a walk and after reading a sign that says "Keep Out of Water and Off of Ice", I spotted this ice fisherman.  I tried to ask him how he knew the ice was thick enough to support him, but he was too far out to communicate.

Another image from my sunrise outing.  I captured several images of waves breaking against the rock outcropping and selected the one with the most interesting splatter.

Processing this image was a real learning experience.  I did my first pass entirely in LR.  Then took it into Luminar AI and did additional processing there.  When reviewing the next day, I decided it was entirely over-cooked in L-AI.  Finally, with some excellent mentoring from Chelsea London, I dialed back some LR settings and tweaked others to arrive at this final image.

I tried to accomplish three things with this image:

1.  Represent the three states of H2O - liquid, solid and gas

2.  Depict the USA colors joining together; with leadership in the White House, perhaps now we can truly be the UNITED STATES again.

3.  Try my hand at compositing 4 images in Photoshop.
