I'm working on a project that sits on a former landfill. One of our consultants forwarded this website link which is footage from the 1960's on waste and pollution. It's classic footage for TrashTalkTuesday. diva.sfsu.edu/collections/sfbatv/bundles/204264. Check it out!

Navin
Via Flickr:
After dinner with some colleagues, I was walking down Powell Street before heading to my car. He approached me asking for some money. I told him about the $2 Portrait project and he readily agreed to participate.
Navin is 55 years old and suffers from schizophrenia, saying he often hears voices in his head. He is orginally from Zambia, Africa where his parents had emigrated from India. Navin came to the US in 1976 and has been in San Francisco for 8 years. He used to work in a family construction business before becoming disabled.
We chatted a while longer with Navin telling me about some bars and restaurants in San Francisco. I thanked him for his time, gave him $2 and we shook hands before parting ways.

Another hand-held shot from the first roll in many years taken with my Minolta XG9. Practically SOOC. I can only attribute the HBC reflection to the play of light between the lens and skylight filter.

Wilma
Posted 2/4/12
I had just left the camera store to buy a battery and some film for my 1980's vintage SLR. Standing on the corner of Wabash & Adams, waiting for a friend to meet me for lunch, I heard her call out, "Hey sir, can you help me?" I turned around and met Wilma. I told Wlma about the $2 Portrait project and she readily agreed. In fact, she asked, "if you take more pictures, do I get more money?" I told her that I'd not heard that one before and we both chuckled.
Wilma is 67 and from Alabama, where she still has some family. She came to Chicago a long time ago because there wasn't work for her in Alabama. She used to be an excellent typist and then learned the computer. Wilma lives on the south side of Chicago, where I lived at one time, and we talked a bit about the old neighborhoods. It was chilly out, Wilma was hungry and my friend pulled up for lunch, so I gave her $5 and wished her a good holiday.
