I have been posting to this blog for over 13 years, each year reporting on accomplishments over the prior year and goals for the new year.

2024 is a little different. I’ve decided that this Blog will be my main photography communication vehicle. Content will be varied and in the spirit of my approach to photography as described on the "About" page of my website at www.jeffmarcowitz.photography

Unlike the past, all content posted here in the blog will NOT also be on the website Project W pages. I intend to make the Project W pages more of a curated collection of work representing the “Best Of” images posted here on the Blog. With a subscription, you'll continue to receive an email (with content) whenever I post to the Project W Blog.

Thanks to all of you who have followed this photo blog for many years and welcome to any newcomers. My hope is that the images and stories are interesting and thought-provoking as I continue this creative journey. As always, comments, critiques and suggestions (here and the website) are welcome and appreciated as they often lead to new ideas and inspiration.

Thank You.
Jeff

Roma

Roma Via Flickr:
It was the sound of a guitar and a melodic chant that caught my attention on Powell Street. I approached and she kept chanting. She reminded me of Roma in Italy. Showing her my camera, she nodded and I proceeded to take a few photos. When she stopped, I tried to converse but she could not understand me, nor I her. I deposited $2 in her guitar case and she smiled in thanks.

Bradley

Bradley
Via Flickr:
It was his sign that mentioned "compassion" that caught my eye. And then someone accidentally kicked over his cup that was sitting on the sidewalk along Market Street. As I helped him gather his change from the spilled cup, we began talking. “Bad day?”, I asked to which he replied, “Some worse than others and today hasn’t been too hot”. I told him about the $2 Portrait project and he readily agreed.

Bradley is 30 years old and from New York. He’s been traveling around the country for a few years just hanging out and and meeting people. He enjoys the freedom. He’s been on the west coast about 3 times but likes Florida the best. Bradley has a high school degree and has worked construction. Occasionally he’ll pick up some construction work when he’s in a city for awhile just to have some money in his pocket.

He was well spoken and while upbeat in tone, I sensed some sadness in his isolation. As I gave him the $2, he thanked me for the conversation and the money and I thanked him for sharing his story.
