Man's Best Friend
This dude was so ugly as to be actually cute. And friendly. Weird.

M- Yoza
At Eric Kim's street photography workshop in Toronto from 6/14/13 - 6/16/13, we spent about 6 1/2 hours shooting in addition to the "classroom" portion. From our photos, the challenge for each of us was to edit down to the best one. This was hard. Through the guidance of Eric's colleague, Josh White, I settled on this shot.
In addition to being the subject of this photo, Yoza and I spent some time talking about his musical interests and career. The $20 in his hand was my $20. And, the CD I bought is pretty good!
This is my workshop photo #1.

I attended an amazing street photography workshop in Toronto last weekend (6/14/13 - 6/16/13) led by Eric Kim and colleagues Josh White & Neil Ta. Learned a ton! Highly recommend it if shooting street photography is an interest.
I've narrowed down a weekend's worth of shooting to 5 photos…
This is #2.

I've narrowed down a weekend's worth of shooting to 5 photos…not great ones, but certainly an improvement for me. At the workshop, I had to narrow it to 1 photo. I'll post that one last in this series.
This one is #4.

Bob
Via Flickr:
Walking down Yonge Street while attending a photo workshop, I met Bob on a corner asking for change. I told him about the $2 Portrait project. Bob is 45 years old and is a baker by trade. He injured his back and can no longer lift the heavy bags of flour. He's hoping to heal his back so he can return to work because in the meantime he has to be on the street.
The word "shelter" seems foreign to Canadians; Bob told me he lives in "housing" where he gets $200/month and has to earn the rest of his living expenses. Despite his plight, he described the volunteer work he does at a neighborhood church where he weekly bakes bread for the indigent population. Pointing to a Panera Bread, Bob said that his bread sells for $1.25/loaf and is better than the bread at Panera that sells for $10.
I tossed several dollars Canadian into Bob's cup and wished him luck.

Walter
He approached us on Wacker Drive, east of Michigan Avenue, with a train schedule in his hand as he pushed his walker. Walter McKinley was looking for train fare to return to Joliet. Walter was in the city for some medical reasons and was trying to get back home. I told him about the $2 Portrait project and he agreed to let me photograph him.
Walter is 65 years old and a Vietnam veteran who served two tours of duty. He showed me his Department of Veterans Affairs ID card, which looked remarkably familiar to those I've seen in San Francisco.
I gave him $2, as did my wife, and we shook hands. He thanked us and we wished him luck and thanked him for his service.
Submitted for SliderSunday. HSS!
