He was my very first $2 Portrait back in March 2011. At the time, I was nervous as hell embarking on a photo project outside my comfort zone. Robert (aka Superman) helped break the ice. Since then, I have photographed over fifty $2 Portraits and have met some very interesting people. Of the 50+, I have an ongoing relationship with two; Robert being one of them.

What astonishes me is that Robert looks no worse for the years. I would have expected his health to deteriorate, for one thing, but I also would have expected to see a hardness develop in his eyes. It's not there. That speaks volumes for the depth of spirit this young man possesses. I would wish him a better life, but perhaps he wouldn't want it (and maybe he's wiser than the rest of us).
