Jeff
Towards the end of the Kelby Worldwide Photo Walk in Chicago, I heard him at the corner of Madison & Canal chanting a loud mantra, “Can you spare some change?” As I observed for a few minutes, everyone passed him by. So I approached him and asked if he’d heard of $2 Portraits. He hadn’t and agreed to tell me his story and let me take his picture. I snapped a few shots and he began to tell me his brief story.
Jeff was born and raised in Chicago and has lived on the west side for all of his 47 years. He worked in a warehouse for 23 years and became disabled so hits the streets to supplement his disability income. He is not married but has 3 kids who live in Chicago who he sees fairly often. He is currently living with his girlfriend. A couple more minutes of small talk and I thanked Jeff for speaking with me and gave him $2. He thanked me and as I rose to catch up with the photowalk group, his mantra began again…”can you spare some change?”
