I have been posting to this blog for over 14 years, each year reporting on accomplishments over the prior year and goals for the new year.

In 2025 and beyond, this Blog will be my main photography communication vehicle. Content will be varied and in the spirit of my approach to photography as described on the "About" page of my website at www.jeffmarcowitz.photography

The Project W pages on the website will be a curated collection of work representing the “Best Of” images posted here on the Blog. With a subscription, you'll continue to receive an email (with content) whenever I post to the Project W Blog.

Thanks to all of you who have followed this photo blog for many years and welcome to any newcomers. My hope is that the images and stories are interesting and thought-provoking as I continue this creative journey. As always, comments, critiques and suggestions (here and the website) are welcome and appreciated as they often lead to new ideas and inspiration.

Thank You.
Jeff

Sitting On The Dock

Sitting On The Dock
52 Frames - Week 39 - Soundtrack

Waukegan Harbor
Waukegan, IL

One intention with this week's challenge was to shoot it with film and process at home in time to meet the deadline.

Out shooting with a recently acquired film camera and a new (to me) lens, this scene immediately brought to mind the infamous Otis Redding song.

Bike Cafe

Bike Cafe
Berlin, Germany

Not 100% of our trip involved "heavy" sights. We found this very cool restaurant/bike shop one morning and indulged in a great breakfast.  I also feasted on some eye candy of beautiful & colorful bikes and gear.

A personal bonus was shooting these with a film camera and home developing/scanning the film.

Holocaust Tower

Holocaust Tower
52 Frames - Week 38 - One Light Source

Jewish Museum Berlin
Berlin, Germany

A room within the JMB, devoid of any artificial lighting or ventilation, only lit by a small window at the top, it felt as a stark reminder of discomfort & hopelessness.  Brilliantly executed by architect, Daniel Libeskind (https://www.jmberlin.de/en/libeskind-building).

Alone Amongst Many
52 Frames - Week 37 - Out of Place!

Auschwitz Concentration Camp
Near Krakow, Poland

In a room filled with over 80,000 shoes from those executed here, one stood out. I don't know what that means, but it is symbolic for me as to how out of place these incomprehensible atrocities were (and are) in a civilized society. Needless to say, visiting Krakow, Poland this week has been an emotionally draining experience.

Hanging Around The House

Hanging Around The House
52 Frames - Week 36 - Shoot From Above

This week is a streak-saver for sure. My first plan, a photo from an airplane, fell apart with a last-minute change of plans for our trip to Europe. The second idea fell apart when I discovered my drone controller cable was not compatible with my current phone. This last (and lame) idea...shooting above an ant hill...at least keeps the streak alive.

He struck up a conversation after seeing our cameras. Didn't understand 90% of what he said, but in the end he agreed to a portrait.
