I have been posting to this blog for over 14 years, each year reporting on accomplishments over the prior year and goals for the new year.

In 2025 and beyond, this Blog will be my main photography communication vehicle. Content will be varied and in the spirit of my approach to photography as described on the "About" page of my website at www.jeffmarcowitz.photography

The Project W pages on the website will be a curated collection of work representing the “Best Of” images posted here on the Blog. With a subscription, you'll continue to receive an email (with content) whenever I post to the Project W Blog.

Thanks to all of you who have followed this photo blog for many years and welcome to any newcomers. My hope is that the images and stories are interesting and thought-provoking as I continue this creative journey. As always, comments, critiques and suggestions (here and the website) are welcome and appreciated as they often lead to new ideas and inspiration.

Thank You.
Jeff

52Frames - Week 33 - Night Photography (Alternate)

I was intent on shooting light trails for this week's 52Frames challenge on Night Photography.

Of the many shots I took, this is the #3 pick.  I was shooting in the opposite direction and had to swing the camera around on the tripod quickly when I heard the warning bells.  Lucky capture.

Road to Taksim Square

Road to Taksim Square
Istanbul, Turkey (from the archives)

It was rainy in Istanbul when we were there 10 years ago.  Got caught in a storm but stopped to capture a street scene one evening with handheld long exposure.

A New Experience

A New Experience52Frames - Week 32 - A New Experience

With Covid concerns, I opted to focus my new experience on a shooting technique rather than a geographic location.

One of the links on the 52Frames site took me to a tutorial on Photoelasticity.   I had never heard of that term nor technique.  This image consists of my laptop screen as an illuminated backdrop, some bunched up saran wrap and a polarizing filter on the lens.

Not my usual genre, but a fun exercise nonetheless.

Coffee

Normally, I'm not a huge fan of selective color.  However, this sign jumped out at me from across the train tracks on this non-descript warehouse building in downtown Libertyville.

52Frames - Week 31 - Water

Wanted to try some stop action this week with water.  Since I don't have a flash for my Sony mirrorless, I pulled out the old Panasonic GX7 with on-camera flash.

My wife thought I was crazy, shooting in the dark on a stepstool and trying to stay dry.

Shower head by Kohler.
